TFAA is happy to promote:
Daughter of the Regiment: A Charming Story of Love Gone Right
Opera in the Heights will open its 16th season with Daughter of the Regiment (La fille du régiment), a company premiere and one of the funniest operas in the repertoire.
Marie, an abandoned infant, is found by a regiment of French soldiers. They decide to raise her themselves, and she grows up to be a spunky, self-assured young woman. Then, she finds love and a bit more about her personal history.
Composer Gaetano Donizetti filled the score with challenging and melodic vocal fireworks. The tenor aria, “Ah! mes amis,” with its nine high C’s, is a show-stopper. The opera is sung in French with English translation projected above the stage.
“La fille du régiment is a feast of music, comedy, and fun. Delightful and entertaining, it is a sure way to start our season in a high note,” enthused Enrique Carreón-Robledo, new Artistic Director of Opera in the Heights.
Brian Byrnes will direct the action onstage, as he so artfully did last season for Don Carlo and Pearl Fishers.
Opera in the Heights, a professional regional company, exists to provide a stage for emerging performers and bring affordable opera to the Greater Houston Area. All operas are fully staged with orchestra and presented in the original language with English surtitles projected above the stage.
Performance dates are September 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and October 1 and 2 (matinee).
Single tickets start at $20, Student tickets are $10 anytime, Senior tickets start at $15 on Thursdays only.
September 19 and 20 (Monday and Tuesday) will be comprised of dress rehearsals with orchestra, which are a rare entertainment opportunity. These are open to the public and are free of charge. They begin at 7:00 pm.
Each evening performance and matinee performance begins at 7:30 pm and takes place at Lambert Hall, 1703 Heights Blvd, in the Houston Heights.
