Originally founded in 1900 as the Houston Public School Art League for the "encouragement of art and culture in the public school system," the MFAH was the first art museum in Texas and still is the fifth largest museum in the United States.
The permanent collection of the museum spans more than 6,000 years of history with more than 40,000 works from six continents.
With its encyclopedic collection and an exciting schedule of international loan exhibitions and award-winning programs, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is one of the premier destinations in the United States for art lovers.
