             Lyon Hospital Exchange

In 2008 TFAA in partnership with the Texas Childrens Cancer Center and Hematology Center  (TCCC) invited two French artists to come to Houston and create two pieces of artwork with the children undergoing treatment at the TCCC.

The first phase of the exchange happened when TFAA sent Houston artist and winner of TFAA's first Art Award & Auction, Daniel-Kayne, traveled to the Centre Léon Bérard Hospital in Lyon, France. Daniel-Kayne was accompanied by fellow Houston artist and president of MOCAH (Museum of Cultural Arts Houston), Reginald Adams. Daniel-Kayne and Reginald Adams were in Lyon from June 12 to July 4. While in Lyon the artists worked with the children at the hospital to create an art piece conceptualized and designed by daniel-kayne. Thanks to the support of the project by a District Mayor in Lyon, the piece will be permanently installed in the roundabout in front of the hospital.

Phase 2 of the project continues through end of October 2011 for a period of 5 weeks as daniel-kayne, Houston based sculptor David Graeve, project’s collaborative artists Joseph Cohen, Aron Williams and Michel Muylle have returned to Lyon to install the hand tiles and finishing the sculpture with metal works and glass.  The progress of the installation is followed with great interest by the children of IHOP who have first row seats from the windows of the hospital.

This huge endeavor is made possible through the hospital, our sponsors and the French companies based in Lyon: Plattard and Peix. These two companies are contractors for a new hospital building across the street and they have been eager and excited to help create the concrete sculpture forms and install them on the site.

The image is a rendering of the finished "Notre Soleil". The project will conclude in spring 2012 with the dedication ceremony for the piece.

The piece will stand for all to see and serve as a reminder of theimportance of creativity and cultural interaction as well as the power of art to bring people together to make a positive difference in the life of a child.

The TFAA is excited about this partnership and will continue to share information regarding the exchange!
